Profile
BioAbroad was founded in Boston in 2006 to assist Israeli scientists, doctors and entrepreneurs living in the US and elsewhere to return to Israel and bring their knowledge and skills to enhance the R&D in Israel.  With more than 630 registered members, most of them PhDs, this non-profit organization represents an extraordinary academic and industrial potential that can contribute tremendously to the future of .  BioAbroad collaborates with the government of Israel and encourages the Israeli academy and industry in Israel
as well entrepreneurs and investors to open new avenues for harvesting this talent.  Our website www.BioAbroad.org.il serves a connecting platform between Israeli scholars abroad and Israeli academia, industry and health system. 

The website includes a database of the members with their professional background as well as an extensive list of academic and industry positions and additional important information for the scientists and employers. 
In addition BioAbroad works with regional representatives in key research centers across the
US
and with other organizations to accomplish the following: 

 Important Milestones

  • January 2009 - following lobbying activity by BioAbroad and government official the Israeli government launched a cross-ministries committee for finding solutions for absorbing talented Israeli scientists from abroad.  The director of the ministry of Absorption who heads the committee said: "Israel's brain drain is a fundamental problem of loosing Israel's most valuable resource.  The governmental decision to establish the cross-ministries committee indicates a change that positions the return of the scientific minds as a national priority.  I hope that the committee's recommendation will provide realistic and immediate solutions in order to end the scientific talent exodus.  The state of Israel must keep its researchers in Israel in order to foster its economic, social and academic strength"
  • January 2009 - a "matching" type project was signed between BioAbroad and the Ministry of Absorption for financing BioAbroad's activities.
  • May 2008 - BioAbroad management presents at the Israeli Biomed 2008.  Dozens CVs of BioAbroad members were presented to industrialists.
  • May 2008 - El-Al gives 7% discount on flight tickets for BioAbroad members.
  • April 2008 - BioAbroad, Teva Pharmaceuticals, ILSI and the Ministry of Trade and Commerce organize job fairs in Boston and in Washington.  Following the event 15 scientists were recruited by Teva.
  • November 2007 - Job fairs and presentations by Israel's leading technological incubators headed by Rina Pridor.  The event was described by Ms. Pridor as "very successful with an utmost Zionist importance".
  • October 2007 - Job fair and entrepreneurship workshop with Zvika Rubinstein, head of Meytav Technological Incubator
  • May 2007 - BioAbroad management presents at the Israeli Biomed 2007.  Numerous meetings were conducted with key industrialists, decision makers in the academia and government officials.  BioAbroad also recommended to the Shochat committee (for higher education system
